BANNERS

If your world falls apart, I’d start a riot.

Liverpool-based singer-songwriter Michael Joseph Nelson released his debut EP ‘BANNERS’ in January 2016 through Island Records, after releasing three singles in 2015 – ‘Ghosts’, ‘Shine a Light’ and ‘Start a Riot’. Spotify included him on its Spotlight list, that highlights 15 artists to watch in 2016.

Start a Riot‘ is an ode to a loved one, contemporaneously delicate and overwhelming.

Enjoy!

Aquilo.

Hello again !

It’s been a while since my first post but I’m back again – I’ll try to find time and post as much as I can, I promise -.

aquilooooo

Aquilo – Tom Higham and Ben Fletcher -, is an indie pop British duo from Silverdale that on January 27th, after working four years on it, released Silhouettes, a 14-tracks debut album. (You really need to listen to it, I mean, the songs are about love, memories, fear so you can easily relate yourself to them but they’re worth listening to. I still have it on repeat and my flatmate will probably kill me if I keep repeating the same songs over and over again).

I had the pleasure to see them live twice: in October at Scala and the day before the album release at New Slang in Kingston.

The gig in Kingston was so intimate that the audience was able to be focused the whole time on their performance. They played nine songs, with the help of Sam and Chris, alternating songs from their previous EPs and the new album.  Everyone knows that I’m like super emotional when going to gigs so no surprise if I had glistening eyes the whole time.

Songs such as Sorry, You Won’t Know Where You Stand and Silhouettes played live gave me goosebumps, with their touching lyrics and falsettos.

Aquilo’s next shows are at SXSW Festival in Austin and at New York’s Bowery Ballroom. In the meantime, you can listen Silhouettes here.

I really can’t wait to see them again !

Let me know what you think about them in the comments below.

See you soon.
